Federal Hill Baltimore Surprise Engagement | Joy + David Engaged

So here’s the thing. Your reaction to your proposal is one of the most priceless, once in a lifetime moments, that is totally worth documenting. I met up with David over coffee one afternoon, and we plotted a top secret plan to capture Joy’s reaction to his proposal. It would be tricky to get all the logistics down, but this undercover mission would be so worth it. After a handful of emails, diagrams, and plotting, we had our plan. My husband and I were having a “picnic” on Federal Hill when David and Joy sat down near us. I casually pretended to be touristy and photograph him, while really shooting over his shoulder and getting Joy & David, who were doing a symbolic foot washing. A tour group and some cyclists went by, and when they passed, David came up with a ring box in hand. It couldn’t have been more perfect. Congrats you two! Marian and Mark’s wedding was held downtown at the beautiful Holy Trinity Catholic Church. I love the feeling old churches have, the large stone walls and beautiful murals are really something to marvel after. After the ceremony we moved on to the Loews Madison hotel in DC. The dimly lit atmosphere mixed with the slick dance moves, made for an amazing time. There was so much love and laughs surrounding them as they said their vows and celebrated! Congrats Marian & Mark!

In Maryland you never know what kind of weather you are going to have… one day it could be 60… the next… 28 and freezing rain. Ha! But autumn continues to be one of the best times of the year. There is just something so natural about mixing a family portrait session with the perfection of the fall colors. The Park’s fit in so organically and looked great while doing it. I’m not sure how they managed to have four perfect children…great job guys! Thanks again for having me shoot your family pics.

There’s that old cheesy saying “A photograph is worth a thousand words,” but man, it’s so true. When you tell your friends and family that you got engaged, the first thing everyone asks is “How did they do it? Was it a surprise? What did you say?” Chelsea & Vanessa’s on the spot engagement pictures answer it, no words needed. When Vanessa asked us to be part of this huge surprise, we knew we had to say yes. She set up a sign at the end of the iconic Maryland’s Symphony of lights. They drove through the whole course while we hid out in the field. It was freezing but so worth at it. Chelsea’s face is priceless. So a photo isn’t worth a thousand words…it’s priceless. Congrats to you Chelsea & Vanessa!

Here in Maryland, fall has to be the most stunning time of year. Perfect weather and perfect backdrop for an engagement session. Meet Camila & Joe, two amazing people that love the city as much as we all love hot chocolate on a snowy day. Camila, who is originally from Colombia and first came to America four years ago where she met Joe and before she knew it…Joe put a ring on it. They plan to go back to Camila’s home town to tie the knot in South America. Congrats you two – You truly are perfect for each other!

Nicole & Rich Married | Hayfields Country Club | Best Maryland photographer

We first met Nicole at Turf Valley country club, where she works as their marketing manager, and totally hit it off. When she asked if we would shoot her wedding, we were so pumped! Everything about Nicole & Rich’s wedding was just was so classic. When we arrived at the Hocks’ house, Nicole’s dad was pacing in the garage practicing his speech. That made our hearts fuzzy. After exchanging vows at the beautiful St Francis Xavier church, Nicole and Rich left in the most gorgeous antique Corvette complete with tin cans pulled behind. The night continued at Hayfields Country Club . There were ice sculptures, family style Italian food, beautiful garlands, and an artist who painted the reception as it happened. When folks weren’t smoking cigars out on the grounds, they were dancing while the band played. Congrats Nicole & Rich! We loved being part of your day.

I’ve known Colleen since we were just young kids with nothing to do but spend the summer days at the neighborhood swimming pool. Hanging out, playing sharks and minnows in the deep end of the pool and eating junk food from the snack bar. Wow, thinking back… I used to think I was so busy as a kid. My daily routine pretty much consisted of, wake up around 10am… and then go hang out at the swimming pool. Ha! Anyhow, When Colleen messaged me and said she was engaged… I got all nostalgic for a minute. I’m so happy I was able to shoot her engagement photo’s! Nothing better than seeing your childhood friends live, love and prosper. Ha, there’s my sentimental moment for the month.

There is something about baseball that makes you feel right at home. Going to the games are a added bonus. Jacqui & Eric are like two pea’s in a pod, both with huge love for baseball and the city. From what I could tell, they’re both rather daring as well. Not satisfied with the outside gates of the stadium, we decided to be rebels and get a couple pics inside. From what I remember… the gate was open, and we just walked in. Can’t wait for your wedding guys, I know it’s going to be incredible!

Sara & Rob | Engaged | Ellicott City, MD Photographer

Temperatures were barely above freezing, but that was no match for all the love and warmth at Sara and Rob’s engagement session! The shoot was scheduled for the week before, but Maryland gave us a few frigid 6 degree days. After bumping the session to a (slightly) warmer day, we headed out to get some great shots! I don’t think any amount of weather could keep Sara & Rob from having a great time together!

Sara & Rob were just like old pals, joking back and forth as we walked around the city. Everywhere we went, the lighting was perfect for photos! The pair warmed up with delicious coffees in Bean Hollow while we captured more moments. These two could be anywhere in the world, and they would still be comfortable! Ahh, Love!

Laura & Billy | Married | Baltimore, MD Photographer

This wedding was a “ball” to shoot. First of all, Laura and Billy are an awesome couple and having met Billy’s sister, Karen, 2 years prior gave us a little more of a connection to start with. At Karen’s wedding friends and family loved having a good time, so I could only anticipate what this one would be like. The wedding took place at Holy Rosary Church and reception in Baltimore at the 1840’s Ballroom on the 4th floor which was really cool because the ballroom consists of 4 uniquely styled and themed floors.

Nothing was more important than the good time being photographed well, and honestly, they were some of the nicest people I’ve met. Actually, funny story: I was dying of thirst by the time I reached the reception hall, and I asked Billy if there was water in this giant cooler they had sitting there, his response, “There’s no water, but you can have a beer!” And the “one beer requirement” my friends, lead to some terrible acid reflux the rest of the night!

Regardless, everything went perfectly, it was a great wedding, and everyone was happy.

Theresa & Mike’s engagement session was at the lovely Centennial Park in Columbia, Maryland. You can usually find them taking their pup for a walk on any old regular day in the park, so naturally it just fit. Fall engagement sessions in Maryland are always coveted because they are usually graced with colorful backdrops of our changing foliage. Well, like I told Theresa after the session…fall leaves ain’t got nothin’ on the beautiful sunset we happened upon. Check it out.

I first met Corinne & Sean way back when at Bridgette & Cory’s Wedding in 2011. We have been fortunate to work with many amazing people through recommendations, and Corinne and Sean are exactly those type of people. We love the vintage country vibe, so when they told me they were having their reception at Serra Valley Farms, I couldn’t wait. It has a modern vintage look and feel to it, makes for an amazing backdrop. During their engagement session Corinne really wanted to have some shots with her horse Kona, so it was only fitting to have horses be a part of their wedding. When they arrived at the reception site, Corinne & Sean went on a carriage ride around the property before being dropped off to join everyone for the reception. It was like being a part of a movie. Congratulations Corinne & Sean!

Meet the Kienzle sisters… well, originally the Kienzle sisters because they have all since been married and taken on new last names. Jordan, Corrine, and Katie are all a riot. I only had the pleasure of photographing Corrine and Jordan’s wedding, but I love these girls. They are the really down to earth and a ton of fun to hang out with. I hope to be taking pictures of all of them and their families for a very long time.

I liked that Shelley & Chuck kept with their love of the city after having their engagement session near the very spot where they met. Then, they were married at the beautiful Hotel Monaco in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. They were very fortunate to have picked an indoor venue for their wedding since it was a rainy Friday evening. The dreary weather was quite the contrast to the excitement and energy that hit us once when we arrived at the Monaco though. One of my very favorite parts of this wedding had to have been the mad dancing skills of Chuck & Shelley’s son Brendon. Check it out below! -Justin
