Federal Hill Baltimore Surprise Engagement | Joy + David Engaged

So here’s the thing. Your reaction to your proposal is one of the most priceless, once in a lifetime moments, that is totally worth documenting. I met up with David over coffee one afternoon, and we plotted a top secret plan to capture Joy’s reaction to his proposal. It would be tricky to get all the logistics down, but this undercover mission would be so worth it. After a handful of emails, diagrams, and plotting, we had our plan. My husband and I were having a “picnic” on Federal Hill when David and Joy sat down near us. I casually pretended to be touristy and photograph him, while really shooting over his shoulder and getting Joy & David, who were doing a symbolic foot washing. A tour group and some cyclists went by, and when they passed, David came up with a ring box in hand. It couldn’t have been more perfect. Congrats you two! I met Jess & Brandon at one of my all time favorite weddings in St. Lucia a couple years ago (Kimmi & Chad). It was one of those really small intimate destination weddings where you actually get to talk to everyone so of course I fell in love with all of their friends. I was honored when Jess called me asking for us to do a sunrise anniversary shoot on the beach in their hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I guess she got tired of Kimmi & Chad hogging me all to themselves ha. Anyhow, I loved this shoot. I know you guys will too. Enjoy!

Marian and Mark’s wedding was held downtown at the beautiful Holy Trinity Catholic Church. I love the feeling old churches have, the large stone walls and beautiful murals are really something to marvel after. After the ceremony we moved on to the Loews Madison hotel in DC. The dimly lit atmosphere mixed with the slick dance moves, made for an amazing time. There was so much love and laughs surrounding them as they said their vows and celebrated! Congrats Marian & Mark!

We’ve been looking forward to Jen & Tim’s wedding since their engagement session last year, and man, their big day did not disappoint Their venue, Antrim 1844, is a classic estate with historic charm, which we love. From the bright wallpaper in Tim’s “getting ready” suite, to the perfectly landscaped gardens, there were so many great places to shoot. Jen & Tim’s wedding was compete with an awesome sunset, some of the coolest wedding favors we’ve ever seen, and one heck of a dance party. Congrats you two!

Jess & Brodie were married at one of my all time favorite wedding venues (at my recommendation actually)– The Mathwig Event Barn. I always feel at home whenever I get a chance to photograph here, but even more so when I get to hang out with my past couples who are good friends with Jess & Brodie. (Theresa & Mike, Keren & Derek). Jess & Brodie were such a chill couple to work with, the kind of people who seem like you have known them for years. This wedding was bittersweet however since it was the second to last we will ever get to shoot at Mathwig. Sadly, they are closing their doors at the end of this year. But we enjoyed the party while it lasted! Anyhow take a look at these two – you wont regret it.

Julia & Jon’s wedding was held at Julia’s Alma mater, Georgetown University, in the beautiful Dahlgren Chapel. Everyone who knows the area can tell you that if you are going to get married in DC in the Spring, you should definitely take advantage of the blossoms. This day wouldn’t have been complete without them! Julia and Jon’s First Look was steps away from the Chapel and right under a bunch of cherry blossoms in a courtyard. Georgetown’s campus is actually incredibility beautiful–Most of our portrait time was spent within a 100 yard radius on campus. Then, after an amazing lunch over at the Sequoia Restaurant right on the Georgetown waterfront, complete with a very sentimental toast from Julia’s Dad, the rest of their lives together had begun! First stop…Rome! Have fun on your honeymoon guys!

In Maryland you never know what kind of weather you are going to have… one day it could be 60… the next… 28 and freezing rain. Ha! But autumn continues to be one of the best times of the year. There is just something so natural about mixing a family portrait session with the perfection of the fall colors. The Park’s fit in so organically and looked great while doing it. I’m not sure how they managed to have four perfect children…great job guys! Thanks again for having me shoot your family pics. :)

Not everyone is as brave as Lisa and Jon to have their engagement session the day after a fresh snow fall in the city. Everyone knows the longer the snow lingers in the city the grosser it gets I honestly was so happy we ventured out though. Our feet were for sure soaked and frozen at the end but standing out on a pier in the harbor this time of year in baltimore can look other worldly. Anyhow I had a great time with these two and we barely walked a square block. Check it out!

Brooke & Ryan were married at the quaint Walker’s Overlook House in Walkersville, Maryland. This place is a photographer’s dream with well lit, open rooms, walls of windows, and beautiful, classic furniture. I had never photographed here before, but after talking with the owner following the reception I learned that he himself was a wedding photographer for over 20 years before he opened the Venue. So it makes sense he would make his Venue a pleasure to photograph in. Anyhow, we got to see a few of our past couples ( Nicole & Steven ) & ( Iris & Scott ) Steven was Ryan’s Best man. So overall the whole day was pretty awesome. Brooke and Ryan’s nerves were non existent and the party was one of the chillest we had been to all year. I think they broke the record on total use of our Photo Booth which is amazing. You can see some of my favorites below.

You might recognize Alex and Brian if you have followed our blog for the past couple years. I first met Alex as a bridesmaid for one of my favorite couples of all time, Erika & Tim (who btw are now expecting their first baby! Congrats guys, cant wait to photograph your little nugget) Anyways can you believe it poured rain most of the day for Alex & Brian! But I told Alex ahead of time, it’s all about attitude, IF it rains it rains. We will have an awesome time regardless of the weather. I loved the dreary overcast dark stormy skies-made their colors pop and didn’t dampen their spirits one bit. There first look is probably one of my favorites to date. Congrats guys, the C&I crew and I loved photographing your wedding.

Every once in a while our clients go above and beyond to make us feel like family at their wedding. Jason and Jheydee are one of those couples. From mentioning us on their program to accommodating us in every way, we were unexpectedly flattered. Surrounded by family and friends, they tied the knot under the pergola at the always beautiful Turf Valley Country Club. Timing couldn’t have been better either; it poured seconds after we finished their family portraits on the alter! :-)

One of the really cool parts about being a wedding photographer is seeing all the different couples styles. Even though we -lets just say- “know our way around a rustic wedding”, each and every single one offers something new, something exciting, that’s indicative of that bride and groom’s personality. Taylor & Forest wedding was no different. We loved shooting their wedding at the Brookmere Winery. They had the most beautiful blue skied day, and all the exposed wood, crops, and outbuildings gave their wedding that awesome tangible farm feel that we love. Congrats Taylor & Forrest! There’s just something about New York City that fills you with excitement and wonder. We took an early morning road trip up to NYC and met Anthony & Xay. They’re the nicest, most friendly folks you’ll ever meet. We spent the day with Xay & Anthony roving around Brooklyn, looking over at the colossal Manhattan buildings from The Promenade and exploring the neighborhoods they’ve lived in. We had some pretty incredible pizza and German food at Buschenschank. It felt like we were just exploring the city with good friends, sharing a meal and stories together, snapping some portraits in the moments in between. Anthony & Xay we are so pumped to shoot your wedding at Union Mills Homestead and hang out again!
