Baltimore Harbor Engagement | Bridget + Brad Engaged

Sunrise engagement sessions are the bomb for two reasons: Number 1, the sun is at it’s dreamiest. Everything is warm and peachy. Number 2, there’s nobody around.

Bridget, Brad & I had the run of Federal Hill and the whole Baltimore Harbor for a good part of the morning. It was wild to be almost completely alone in such a touristy part of the city. That is…until Bridget and Brad had to change into their Save The Date t-shirts. No bathrooms were open, so they changed behind a building and accidentally in-front of a morning yoga class. We were cracking up the whole rest of the morning. It’s always an adventure

Federal Hill Baltimore Surprise Engagement | Joy + David Engaged

So here’s the thing. Your reaction to your proposal is one of the most priceless, once in a lifetime moments, that is totally worth documenting. I met up with David over coffee one afternoon, and we plotted a top secret plan to capture Joy’s reaction to his proposal. It would be tricky to get all the logistics down, but this undercover mission would be so worth it. After a handful of emails, diagrams, and plotting, we had our plan. My husband and I were having a “picnic” on Federal Hill when David and Joy sat down near us. I casually pretended to be touristy and photograph him, while really shooting over his shoulder and getting Joy & David, who were doing a symbolic foot washing. A tour group and some cyclists went by, and when they passed, David came up with a ring box in hand. It couldn’t have been more perfect. Congrats you two! Every year everyone goes a little crazy for cherry blossom season in Washington, DC. This year especially because of the long winter and abundance of rain/snow. Every tree was abloom with beautiful cherry blossoms and flowers, it was like something out of a fairytale. Yan and Michael will be getting married in China next year and wanted engagement images from the states to have at their wedding. Justin will be doing a round two engagement session with them in New York in a month or so, can’t wait to see what he comes up with. I’m so happy I had the chance to bring these two out and take some awesome photo’s.

There’s that old cheesy saying “A photograph is worth a thousand words,” but man, it’s so true. When you tell your friends and family that you got engaged, the first thing everyone asks is “How did they do it? Was it a surprise? What did you say?” Chelsea & Vanessa’s on the spot engagement pictures answer it, no words needed. When Vanessa asked us to be part of this huge surprise, we knew we had to say yes. She set up a sign at the end of the iconic Maryland’s Symphony of lights. They drove through the whole course while we hid out in the field. It was freezing but so worth at it. Chelsea’s face is priceless. So a photo isn’t worth a thousand words…it’s priceless. Congrats to you Chelsea & Vanessa!

Here in Maryland, fall has to be the most stunning time of year. Perfect weather and perfect backdrop for an engagement session. Meet Camila & Joe, two amazing people that love the city as much as we all love hot chocolate on a snowy day. Camila, who is originally from Colombia and first came to America four years ago where she met Joe and before she knew it…Joe put a ring on it. They plan to go back to Camila’s home town to tie the knot in South America. Congrats you two – You truly are perfect for each other!

With all of its history and old architecture, Federal Hill is iconic Baltimore. Mona & Jared kept it classic but cool, venturing down to the Visionary Art Museum, playing like kids at the park, and just taking in the city below. A huge ferris wheel in the harbor changed up the skyline, and made for some really sweet shots. Congrats Mona & Jared!

I’ve known Dani and Tony for some time now. Tony and I go way back to when we were just two teenagers with nothing better to do but go to concerts or hang out at malls. A few years later I met Dani at my second job, where we all worked, and like to think I had something to do with how they met. I was around when they first started dating and have watched them blossom to where they are now. Tony told me he was getting ready to ‘pop the question’ and, (if she said yes, lol), he wanted me to be a part of their journey and be their photographer. I was so siked that she accepted, and now I get to be a part of one of the most amazing and monumental days of their lives. I love any excuse to use my abilities to capture moments – it’s an added bonus when you get to hang out with friends while doing what you love. Congrats you two, can’t wait for your wedding!

I’ve known Diana for a long time. We met at one of my first jobs, almost ten years ago. I worked as a lab tech at a little photo store (FotoImage) in Burtonsville, MD. Diana would stop by the lab and get her film processed. Ahhh… Memories. From then on, we remained good friends. When she called to tell me she got engaged and she wanted me to be their photographer, I couldn’t have been more excited. David is a perfect match for Diana, they both have so much fun together – truly best friends. So happy for the two of you, can’t wait for your wedding!

It seems like winter would never end here in Maryland, with most of the trees just now filling their branches with new buds and waking up from the rough winter; it is a refreshing to start the spring with engagements. It took a while for Courtney & Tony to decide on a great location, but since she loves the outdoors so much, we finally settled on Great Falls, a place I have personally loved since I was little. Great Falls is such a peaceful place in Maryland, full of wildlife and natural rock walls. And we actually ended up encountering some pretty crazy wildlife, from spiders, turtles, lizards, and a giant king snake. To my surprise, Tony actually caught the snake to let us have a closer look at it. I remember saying “I don’t think it’s poisonous” blinking, and watching Tony holding the snake. Haha. Anyways, I loved hanging out with you guys for the morning. Can’t wait for your wedding!!!

Sara & Rob | Engaged | Ellicott City, MD Photographer

Temperatures were barely above freezing, but that was no match for all the love and warmth at Sara and Rob’s engagement session! The shoot was scheduled for the week before, but Maryland gave us a few frigid 6 degree days. After bumping the session to a (slightly) warmer day, we headed out to get some great shots! I don’t think any amount of weather could keep Sara & Rob from having a great time together!

Sara & Rob were just like old pals, joking back and forth as we walked around the city. Everywhere we went, the lighting was perfect for photos! The pair warmed up with delicious coffees in Bean Hollow while we captured more moments. These two could be anywhere in the world, and they would still be comfortable! Ahh, Love!

Sitting down with Jason and JheyDee in their modern apartment building in downtown DC, I instantly knew that they were city boys. However, living in the city they opted for a little more of a country feel for their wedding, which will be at the fabulous Turf Valley Country Club in Howard County. Preferring not to abandon DC all together, they went for a more urban setting for their engagement session. I absolutely love shooting in Georgetown because of all the hidden treasures you find. I have shot in these streets countless times and my images are always different. One pleasant surprise on this particular day was the random 70 degree weather we had in the middle of November. We even got a chance to finish up our session on the famous “Exorcist stairs,” which was new for me having never seen them in person. Anyhow Jason & JheyDee are two of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and so full of personality. See for yourself

Rikki & Ryan | Pierce Mill, Rock Creek Park | Engaged | Washington DC Photographer

When Rikki first contacted me about her engagement session she told me she really wanted to use the Arboretum in DC, but the Government shut down kept us out. Instead we used Pierce Mill, at Rock creek park. I used to drive past this location frequently coming home from DC, eager to get home, I would always think to myself, that looks like a peaceful place to stop and relax. Thanks to Rikki and Ryan I finally got to stop and hang out for a little while at Pierce mill. Rikki just finished Veterinarian school – Ryan owns and operates a roast beef sandwich joint in DC, called MGM Roast beef. Guy Fieri would definitely give this place two thumbs up, I give it ten. It’s seriously that good. If I would’ve known about it before the day I met them, I would have definitely stopped by his place back in the day, gotten a sandwich and had myself a picnic at Pierce mill. Congratulations you two, can’t wait for your wedding!

Theresa & Mike’s engagement session was at the lovely Centennial Park in Columbia, Maryland. You can usually find them taking their pup for a walk on any old regular day in the park, so naturally it just fit. Fall engagement sessions in Maryland are always coveted because they are usually graced with colorful backdrops of our changing foliage. Well, like I told Theresa after the session…fall leaves ain’t got nothin’ on the beautiful sunset we happened upon. Check it out.
